Awards given to winners and prize holders of RSSU International Cup Moscow Open 2020

The Closing ceremony of the XVI International RSSU Cup Moscow Open was held on Sunday, February 2 in the Hall of the Russian State Social University. The winners were congratulated on the stage by the president of the Moscow Chess Federation Sergey Lazarev, Vice Head of the Moscow Bank Sberbank Nikolay Bespalov, Vice director, director for organization of sports, entertainment and special programmes of the Roscongress fund Goergiy Bryusov, vice head for sports of the All Russia Association of the Blind Oksana Kovaleva and the RSSU Rector Natalia Pochinok.

Sergey Lazarev congratulated the participants and guests with the closing of the tournament and noted that the tournament was held at a very high and professional level: “This year the festival collected a large number of participants from 37 countries and 76 regions of Russia. It is the most important chess event in our country. We are waiting for you all at the next festival Moscow Open 2021!”, said Sergey Evgenyevich.

«This year we heard a lot of new surnames among the winners and prize holders. This means that correct actions are taken to identify new talents in this sport. Despite the fact that not everyone in this hall is a winner, I am sure that all of you received valuable experience and loads of impressions at this tournament» - noted Nikolay Bespalov.

Goergiy Bryusov welcomed and congratulated the winners and also thanked the festival organizers for the work that had been done. Georgiy Pavlovich noted that chess is not only sport but also a contribution to the future of the country: “With this tournament we continue and strengthen the traditions of Russian sport!”, said Bryusov.

«Today we are summarizing the results of the 16th International RSSU Cup. It is the largest and most versatile tournament that is held in our country. The festival will always be loved by chess professionals and amateurs. Moscow Open brought up several generations of strong chess players”, said Natalia Pochinok. The RSSU rector stressed the importance of conducting the tournament “Victory contemporaries” for veterans that was held for the first time as a part of the festival and also the competitions for blind and visually impaired chess players. In conclusion Natalia Borisovna thanked the organizers and festival sponsors for support.

The official part was followed by the award ceremony for the winners and prize holders of the festival.

In conclusion the RSSU rector thanked all those present and together with Sergey Lazarev announced a special prize to a permanent participant of the festival – veteran Vyacheslav Vasilyevich Gavrilov.  A special cup and a money prize will go directly from the RSSU to Sakhalin. After that Natalia Borisovna announced the festival closed.
