On Saturday February 1 the RSSU Hall hosted the closing ceremony of the competitions among school children and students that had been taking place for nine days as a part of the Moscow Open 2020 festival.
Among the participants of the award ceremony were the director of the tournament, the head of the Arbiters’ committee of the Moscow Chess Federation Artem Akhmetov, RSSU Rector, the head of the Social Policy Commission of the Russian Civic Champer – Natalia Pochinok, the World rapid and blitz chess champion Sergey Karyakin and the vice general director of Sberbank-AST CJSC Yulia Obalyaeva.
Artem Akhmetov told us that this year for this first time the festival welcomed more than 2000 participants from 74 regions of our country and more than 30 countries of the world. Artem Zamfirovich congratulated the winners and prize holders and thanked all the participants.
Sergey Karyakin noted that the statistics of the festival is impressive and that every year a large number of young chess players take part in it. The Grandmaster congratulated the winners and prize holders and to those who did not get prizes this time he advised not to get discouraged, continue playing chess and the victories would come.
Yulia Obalyaeva thanked everyone for the organization of the festival and mentioned the importance of parent participation in the life of young sportsmen. “Thank you very much for you integrated approach to the upbringing of your children, and I am sure that these children will be contributing to the advancement of the Russian economics and science. Congratulations to the winners and prize holders”, said Yulia Igorevna.
Natalia Pochinok congratulated the participants and their parents with the closing of the tournament, after that she thanked the partners and sponsors of the event: the Moscow government, the Directorate of the sports and entertainment events, Moscow department for sports, Moscow Chess Federation, Sberbank – AST and also a charity fund named after Oleg Zhuravskiy “Sozcezdie dobra” and Bookmaker company “Liga stavok”.
“Our festival is followed by people from all over the world, and every year we discover new stars here. Thank you for participation and special thanks to the parents for your contribution to the victories of your children”, sad Natalia Borisovna.
After the official part honorary guests gave trophies to all the winners and prize holders.
When the awards were handed out, Natalia Pochinok took the floor once again and invited everyone to the next 17th International RSSU Cup Moscow Open.
