Znamsaran Tsydypov: I dedicate most of my time to chess

The winner of the RSSU Blitz Cup of last year’s Moscow Open Zhamsaran Tsydypov is now one of the five leaders of the main tournament of the festival - National Cup stage among men. In the fifth round the Grandmaster signed a peace treaty with Daniil Lintchevski and after the game answered some of our questions.

- Zhamsaran, how is the tournament going for you, are you satisfied with the current result?
- Before this game I was quite satisfied, now, let’s say, everything is normal (laughing). The last game was very difficult. It seemed that the position was absolutely equal but the opponent was able to create some problems, and at some point I did not react that well... I had to keep the balance by single moves. At the beginning of the tournament I did not play that confidently but by the third round I started playing much better, took on a rhythm.

- Last year you won the RSSU Blitz Cup. В прошлом году ты выиграл Кубок РГСУ по блицу. What time control do you enjoy playing most?
- I think rapid. I participate more often in the Russian Rapid Chess Grand Prix stages, than classic chess. Before this tournament the last time I played with classic time control in August last year.

- How many times did you take part in Moscow Open?
- I continuously take part in the festival since 2010.

- And in what tournament? How successfully?
- The first time I played in the amateur tournament and all the subsequent years in the main one. My performance is not that stable, sometimes I was among top ten, raised my rating...I also had some unsuccessful years.

- Tell us about your most important chess success.
- Last year I played well at the National team championship in Sochi. I got the first prize as a member of “Siberia” team at the third table with 6,5 points out of 9. Although I could have gained more.

- What do you do apart from chess?
- It is difficult to say, I am a student (laughing). In general I dedicate time to chess. I love watching sports matches, films, listen to music.

- In what university do you study?
- Buryat State University in Ulan-Ude.

- Do they like chess in Buriatia?
- Yes, very much. There was a chess boom some time ago, there are many people willing to play, especially children.

- Have you thought about combining playing and coaching activities?
- I have thought about coaching work but I would like to play so far.

- What are you nearest aims and objectives?
- Now I would like to raise my rating and continue growing in chess. In the nearest future I will go to the championship of Far Eastern Federal District participating in the selection for the Premier League.
